Upcoming Galaxy Chromebook may have revolutionary OLED

Over three years have passed since Samsung last released a Chromebook, but a new one called Galaxy Chromebook Plus might be just around the corner. Many things have changed since 2021, and a new model would have much catching up to do.

Catch up, it may. In fact, it may bring something new and never-before-seen in the Chromebook world to the table.

A new report citing Chromium Gerrit entries (via Chrome Unboxed) suggests that the next Samsung Chromebook will use an OLED display with adaptive screen colors.

This tech adjusts the OLED display's colors and temperatures according to the Galaxy Chromebook Plus' surroundings.

Something like True Tone or Vision Booster

Samsung's next device could revolutionize Chromebooks, as they don't usually have sensors for color tone adjustment on the fly. Users can control color tone through a manual slider, but there's no automatic system in place.

By the sound of it, the upcoming Galaxy Chromebook Plus might be equipped with extra sensors or use cameras to read its surroundings and adjust the OLED's temperature and colors accordingly.

It may work something like Apple's True Tone technology for MacBooks, wherein the screen gets a yellow tint in darker environments.

Or, who knows?! This new technology and OLED display employed by the Galaxy Chromebook Plus could work similarly to Samsung's Vision Booster technology, which the company is already using for its Windows-powered Galaxy Book laptops.

Vision Booster debuted on Galaxy flagship phones but has made its way onto more device types. It is an effective method of adjusting the display's colors and brightness to offer the best visibility, even outdoors and in bright environments.

Whether Samsung will implement something simpler like True Tone or go all in with something like Vision Booster (or both) for its next Galaxy Chromebook Plus is unclear, but we may find out very soon.

Although Samsung hasn't said anything about this upcoming rumored Chromebook Plus so far, the media is holding its breath for an official reveal on September 24.

Google will host the Chromebook Showcase in New York City then, and many expect Samsung to lift the veil off its new Chromebook at Google's event.

The Chromebook Plus reportedly features an OLED that measures roughly 15.6 – 16 inches, which would set it even further apart from most other Chromebooks. By the sound of it, the Chromebook Plus may be in a league of its own for more than one reason.
