Google Photos to get basic editing features for Super HDR photos

According to a new report from Android Authority, the latest version of the Google Photos app for Android (version 7.0) offers a new feature for editing photos: Ultra HDR. You will be able to find it in Edit » Adjust.

Unfortunately, at the moment, the feature is not functional. So, there’s no information on what it does. However, going by the name, it looks like this feature will allow you to adjust the brightness of Ultra HDR photos.

For those of you who don’t know, Ultra HDR is an image format from Google. It has HDR metadata, allowing phones with HDR screens to use that data and show the image in HDR, and phones without it to ignore that data and show the photo in SDR. Pixel series phones are one of the Android devices with the capability to capture images in Ultra HDR.

The story continues after the video…

Samsung’s latest S-series and Z-series (Galaxy S24 and newer) smartphones also have a similar feature called Super HDR. Maybe Google Photos will be able to adjust the brightness of Super HDR images as well. We will have to wait and watch.
