Galaxy S25 seems to have better Face Unlock than previous models

On paper, the Galaxy S25 series doesn't look like a good upgrade over its predecessor. However, Samsung introduced several improvements that it didn't even talk about. Some of such upgrades include better loudspeakers, 45W charging support with the bundled cable, and probably face unlock.

Galaxy S25 appears to have faster face unlock

Several Galaxy S25 users are convinced (via Android Authority) that Samsung has improved the face unlock mechanism compared to previous Galaxy S devices, such as the Galaxy S24 series. They claim that face unlock works faster and more reliably, even in low-light or unideal conditions. Some users claim that face unlock now works at wider angles than earlier.

The Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra feature a 12MP front-facing camera. They don't feature a dot projector, a flood illuminator, or an IR camera like iPhones do, so they can't create a three-dimensional depth map of a user's face, which means the face unlock mechanism not as secure and theoretically shouldn't work well in low-light conditions.

Despite those limitations, Galaxy S25 users noticed that the face unlock mechanism works much better than on previous Samsung phones. While the company didn't mention this improvement, it is good to know that users are noticing an improvement.

The Galaxy S10 5G was the only Samsung phone with a 3D ToF camera on the front, which means it could create a user's face's 3D depth map and offer biometric-grade security with its face unlock mechanism. Unfortunately, Samsung stopped using it with newer phones.
