LG smartphone business exit now final as all support ends

LG has now fully exited the smartphone business, ending all remaining support for its devices. This includes hardware repairs, software updates, and access to core services like LG Health, Mobile Switch, and remote unlocking.

As of June 30, the company has officially stopped supplying new parts and has begun shutting down service operations across key regions. Some private repair shops may still offer help, but with parts no longer available, it will be harder to keep LG phones running.

LG announced its departure from the mobile phone industry back in 2021. At the time, it was still working on a rollable phone that could have been an alternative to Samsung’s foldables. LG also tried other bold ideas, like modular phones, but those never took off with the public. Over the years, losses mounted and the company eventually pulled the plug.

Today, LG’s presence in the smartphone market is barely noticeable. According to Korea’s Information Society Development Institute, the company held just 2.1 percent of the domestic market in 2023. Most users have already moved on to other brands like Samsung and Apple.

With official support now over, what’s left is just cleanup. If you still own an LG phone, it might be time to consider a replacement.
