The Galaxy Z Fold 7 pre-orders have defied expectations. Despite its high price tag and the usual skepticism around foldables, Samsung’s latest book-style foldable is flying off the shelves, at least in South Korea and India.
In Samsung’s home country, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 have already notched 1.04 million pre-orders as of July 21. That’s more than the 910,000 units tallied by last year’s Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 combined, and even edges past the 1.02 million mark set by the 2023 models. And pre-orders haven’t even closed yet.
What’s more surprising is the breakdown. For the first time ever, the larger and more expensive Fold model is outselling its clamshell sibling. The Z Fold 7 currently accounts for 60% of pre-orders, while the Flip 7 trails at 40%. Compare that to last year, when the Flip 6 led with 60%, and 2023, when the Flip 5 dominated with 70% of early demand.
That shift may be thanks to Samsung’s aggressive launch strategy. The company has packed in discounts, gifts, and marketing push, especially around the Z Fold 7’s sleeker design and slimmer profile. It’s clearly paying off.
The global picture remains to be seen. While South Korea and India are showing strong momentum, the real test will be in Europe and North America. But one thing’s certain, Galaxy Z Fold 7 pre-orders are already setting the stage for a strong Q3 for Samsung.
