The Motorola Android 16 update is on the way, but for many devices, it will be the last big upgrade. While Motorola hasn’t announced a detailed rollout timeline yet, Android 16 is expected to arrive on its devices around September or October.
According to early reports, several Motorola phones will not receive any major Android version update beyond Android 16. This includes models like the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, Moto G55, and the Motorola Razr+ (2023). These devices will still get security patches for a few more years, but Android 16 marks the end of the road for OS upgrades.
Motorola’s 2023 foldables, including the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra, are also part of this list. Even the new Motorola Edge (2024) and the ThinkPhone will stop at Android 16. On the tablet side, the Pad 60 Pro, which launched with Android 14, will not move past this version either.
Mid-range phones like the Moto G85, G55, and G35 are also affected. While newer devices are expected to receive the Android 16 update first, older models may have to wait longer. Motorola is currently beta testing Android 16 in select regions.
This slow pace isn’t new. Motorola is still rolling out Android 15 to some of its devices. That said, users enrolled in the beta can expect to try Android 16 sooner than most.
