The Android Handoff feature could be the next step in making Google’s ecosystem feel more like Apple’s. One reason people love Apple devices is how well they work together. Files, apps, and calls move across iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Watches with almost no friction. Now, Google may be preparing something similar for Android and ChromeOS.
According to Android Authority, Google has added a new feature to the Cross-Device Services section in the latest Google Play Services beta (version 25.29.31). This Android Handoff feature isn’t live yet, but the description suggests users will soon be able to access files across their devices, all signed in under the same Google account.

Right now, Galaxy phones and tablets already support things like shared copy-paste, file transfers, and even using one mouse or keyboard across devices. Google also allows users to shift video calls between Android and Chromebook and instantly share Wi-Fi. But with this new addition, users may soon be able to pick up right where they left off on another device, whether it’s an app, a file, or even a notification.
The feature was found sitting next to another one in testing: cross-device notification sharing. It’s clear that Google is building the foundations for tighter device integration. And if it works well, it could be a big boost for Samsung’s ecosystem, especially for those using both Galaxy and Chromebook devices. Apple’s ecosystem still leads in polish, but Android isn’t too far behind.
