With more and more chip manufacturers working on smart automotive solutions, it was only a matter of time before we saw big team-ups between some of the biggest names within the industry. That in mind, MediaTek recently announced it’s teamed up with Google as the first company to commit to the latter’s “Project Treble.”

For those unfamiliar, Project Treble is an initiative under Google that aims to provide long-term software updates for in-vehicle smart systems. With that said, automakers who partner with MediaTek will receive at least four years of firmware and security updates for their systems, with no extra fees included.
MediaTek says that its MT8678 and MT8676 platforms will support Project Treble. Mike Chang, MediaTek’s Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Automotive Business states:
