Low-cost MacBook with A18 Pro chip could launch in late 2025

Apple’s rumored low-cost MacBook A18 Pro is moving closer to launch. A new report says mass production could begin in the third quarter of 2025, with a release before the year ends. The laptop will reportedly use the same A18 Pro processor as the iPhone 16 Pro models.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo first revealed Apple’s plan. He claimed the company would use the iPhone chip to reduce costs without sacrificing too much performance. Code in macOS Sequoia already mentions the device, suggesting Apple has been developing it for some time.

Digitimes says component production will start before the end of Q3 2025. The MacBook could cost between $599 and $699, placing it closer to the Mac mini’s pricing than the $999 MacBook Air. The display may measure 12.9 inches, slightly smaller than the Air, and color options could include silver, blue, pink, and yellow.

If Apple sticks to this schedule, the launch could happen in late 2025 or early 2026. Kuo predicts Apple could sell between five and seven million units in 2026, targeting buyers who want a MacBook without the high price tag.

Digitimes and Kuo have strong supply chain sources, though their release-date predictions aren’t always accurate. Still, with production plans in motion, the low-cost MacBook A18 Pro is looking more and more likely.
