The Pixel Buds A-series Finally Get a Sequel: Meet the Pixel Buds 2a

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a pair of affordably-priced earbuds from Google, although the company has now announced its newest budget earbuds with the Pixel Buds 2a, which introduce some much-needed changes from its predecessor. They’re priced at $129.99, which place them well below the Pixel Buds Pro 2.

Perhaps one of the biggest features this year is the addition of active noise cancelling, which was unfortunately absent from the Buds A-series. Google says that it’s equipped the new earbuds with its Silent Seal technology for improved ANC, in addition to other features such as transparency mode, and even active in-ear pressure relief.

Available in “Hazel” and “Iris” colour variants, the earbuds also come with a new look that features the same wingtip design on the Buds 2 Pro. IP54 protection from dust and moisture, while the charging case comes with IPX4 protection. They can also last for up to 10 hours per charge (seven hours with ANC on), and a total of up to 27 hours with the charging case.

Like its Pixel smartphones, the Pixel Buds 2a run on a custom processor in the form of the Tensor A1, and this allows the earbuds to support voice assistant features such as summoning Google Gemini for user queries and commands. For controls, you’re getting support for tap and slide controls, and in-ear detection for automatic pause and playback.

Google also announced some upcoming features for the Pixel Buds Pro 2, which include “Loud Noise Protection” for outdoor environments, hands-free texts and calls, and “Adaptive Audio” volume adjustment, all of which are scheduled to arrive in September.
