Google Search Enhances AI Mode with New Features and Global Expansion

Google is taking a significant step forward with its AI Mode in Search, introducing more advanced capabilities and expanding its reach across the globe. This latest development, announced by Robby Stein, VP of Product for Google Search, aims to make search queries more agentic and personalized, providing users with tailored responses that help them accomplish tasks more efficiently.

Agentic Capabilities for Streamlined Task Management

AI Mode is set to transform how users manage everyday tasks. By integrating agentic capabilities, Google aims to simplify processes like making restaurant reservations. This feature enables users to specify multiple constraints such as party size, date, time, location, and preferred cuisine. AI Mode then scours various reservation platforms and websites to present a curated list of options, complete with real-time availability. Users can seamlessly proceed to the booking page with a single click.

The technology behind this innovation involves a combination of Project Mariner’s live web browsing capabilities, direct partner integrations, and the powerful synergy of Google’s Knowledge Graph and Maps. In collaboration with partners like OpenTable, Resy, Tock, and Ticketmaster, Google is ensuring users can take action on the web with minimal hassle.

Initially, these capabilities are available to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. through the “Agentic capabilities in AI Mode” experiment in Labs.

    Personalized Recommendations

For users partaking in the AI Mode experiment in Labs, Google is rolling out personalized recommendations, starting with dining-related topics. By analyzing previous searches and interactions, AI Mode can suggest dining options that align with individual preferences, such as cuisine type, meal preferences, and seating preferences.

For instance, if a user searches for a quick lunch spot, AI Mode can infer preferences like Italian food or plant-based meals, delivering tailored suggestions. Users maintain control over their data, with the ability to manage personalization settings through their Google Account.

    Collaborative Exploration

Sharing has become easier with the introduction of link-sharing capabilities within AI Mode. Users can now share insights or inspiration with friends and family by tapping the “Share” button. This feature allows contacts to pick up the conversation where it left off, facilitating collaboration on tasks like trip planning or party organizing. Users have the autonomy to remove shared links whenever they choose.

    Global Reach with AI Mode

The positive feedback surrounding AI Mode’s capability to handle complex queries has prompted Google to extend its reach. Previously available in the U.S., India, and the UK, AI Mode is now accessible in over 180 new countries and territories, supporting English language interactions. This expansion allows more users to engage with nuanced queries and explore the vast information landscape that the web offers.
