You don’t have to worry about data security with Samsung’s new appliances

Samsung has announced that its new Bespoke series home appliances, including refrigerators and robot vacuum cleaners, have received an IoT security certification from TÜV Nord, a global certification organization based in Germany. This is important, as governments around the world are tightening security requirements on devices.

Samsung has been working a lot behind the scenes to make sure its home appliances and TVs handle user data extremely securely. The company has integrated security features like Knox Matrix and Knox Vault in its Bespoke series home appliances, including refrigerators and robot vacuum cleaners. They are explained below.
    • Knox Matrix: Home appliances in the home network keep a check on each other's security status and notify you if anything suspicious occurs.
    • Knox Vault: All the critical data, including passwords, is stored in a dedicated hardware subsystem to keep it safe.

TÜV Nord has analyzed the Bespoke AI Refrigerator series, the upcoming Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam, and the existing Bespoke Jet Bot Combo, and awarded them the ‘Certified Cybersecurity' certification that is based on the ETSI EN 303 645 standard, established by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).

Samsung's new Bespoke AI series home appliances verify unauthorized firmware modifications when the device is turned on. Moreover, all the video footage captured for home security monitoring and user commands from robot cleaners are encrypted. The data is decrypted only at its intended destination.

This shows that Samsung is ready to meet evolving global standards for security, as the European Union is tightening the security requirements of products, and it has updated the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and will soon implement the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).

The ETSI EN 303 645 standard requires testing a product's privacy and security across its entire lifecycle, starting from design and development to distribution and operation. It requires the analysis to include key criteria, including authentication and access control, data encryption, personal data protection, secure software updates, and vulnerability management.
