Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series won’t have a Pixel rival

In 2020, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip, its first smartphone with a clamshell foldable display. Since then, many brands have launched flip-style foldable phones. However, two of the most popular companies in the mobile market, Apple and Google, haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet.

While there’s no information if the Cupertino-based tech giant has any plans to launch a clamshell iPhone in the near future, Google has now confirmed that it isn’t developing a flip-style smartphone at the moment, which means that there won’t be a Pixel rival to the Galaxy Z Flip series anytime soon.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Google’s Vice President of Devices and Services, Shakil Barkat, said that the brand isn’t making a Pixel-branded phone with a flip-style foldable display (via 9To5Google).

In the interview, Google’s Senior Vice President of Devices and Services, Rick Osterloh, acknowledged that Google will never be a “giant player” in the mobile market (sales number-wise). He further added “building a good business is enough” for Google.

That's probably the reason the brand may not be looking to come up with a smartphone featuring a clamshell foldable display. Whatever the case, with Google’s latest statement, Samsung has one less thing to worry about for its flip phones.
