Want to check up on elders at home? Samsung TVs and appliances can help

Samsung's strong ecosystem of mobile devices and home appliances allows them to work better together, offering more advanced features. One such Samsung ecosystem feature is SmartThings Family Care, which makes it easier to check on your parents or elderly relatives at home.

Samsung updates SmartThings Family Care to work with TVs and home appliances

Samsung has announced improvements to its SmartThings Family Care feature that helps you check up on elders at home. Announced last year and now available in over 200 countries, the feature has now been updated to work with Samsung's TVs and home appliances. It offers elderly-related activity notifications, location-based alerts, and medication and appointment reminders related to caregivers.

Samsung has made setting up SmartThings Family Care so easy that people who are not familiar with using apps can install it and complete the setup on their own. They can now send an invitation link that includes easy-to-follow steps to join the service.

Caregivers can access relevant information quickly, while care recipients (like your parents or grandparents) can choose what information to share. You (or your family) can now define caregiver and care recipient roles more clearly.

The new version of SmartThings Family Care can notify you (or a caregiver) if the elderly in your family has not used a TV or an appliance at their home for an extended period, so that you can check up on them by either calling them or using a robot vacuum cleaner with a built-in camera at home to check up on the situation.

If the elderly person you need to check up on uses a Samsung Health-compatible smart band or Galaxy Watch, you can check their wake-up time, bedtime, and daily step counts. You can also register essential locations, such as the hospital, pharmacy, supermarket, grocery store, recreation centre, cultural venues, or a relative's home, to monitor your elderly person's current location, visit history, and routes. This feature can also be used for children in your family so that you can keep an eye on their journeys to and from school.

You can also help the elderly in your family remember important events such as regular health check-ups, medication reminders, or family gatherings. Once reminders are set up, notifications are sent to both the care recipient and the caregiver.

This feature is compatible with Samsung's SmartThings-connected home appliances, including cooktops, dryers, microwaves, ovens, refrigerators, robot vacuum cleaners, and washers. To set up this feature, you would need a phone running Android 11 (or later) and having at least 3GB of RAM.
