For its new model year, the all-new Porsche Macan Electric is getting some new assistance systems and digital features, including the ability to lock and unlock the car using your smartphone. The carmaker has announced support for Digital Keys, and they are compatible with smartphones running Android (like Galaxy phones) or iOS.
Porsche Macan Electric's digital keys are compatible with Samsung Wallet
Porsche has announced that the Macan Electric SUV is compatible with digital keys, which work with Android and iOS smartphones. On Android phones, the Porsche Digital Key can be stored in the native wallet app. In the case of Galaxy phones, the native wallet app is Samsung Wallet, which received support for digital car and door keys a few years ago. You can lock/unlock the car and start its engine using the digital key.

The digital keys for the Macan Electric work with Bluetooth Low Energy (LE), NFC, and UWB. Most high-end Galaxy phones support all three connectivity features, but even if you don't have a high-end Galaxy phone, there is a high chance that it features both Bluetooth LE and NFC. Even if your Galaxy phone is not charged, the digital key should work for some time after the phone has shut down.

Porsche says that the digital key can be shared with seven other users via Messages, WhatsApp, and the native email app. This should make it easier for you to give access to your car to your family member or friend. You can choose whether those people can simply enter the car (lock/unlock it) or even drive it. You can also open the trunk of the car using the digital key.
Additionally, if you have equipped the Macan Electric with the Porsche Connect package, the frunk and luggage compartments of the car can be accessed via the My Porsche app.
Your Galaxy phone can also be turned into a wireless gaming controller when you are playing games on the car's infotainment screen. Games from Gameloft and Obscure Interactive will be available on the Porsche App Center. The driver, front passenger, and rear passenger can play games individually or together. The passengers can play games on their individual screens even when the driver is driving the car.
