Following an early release in Ireland, the Galaxy A17 5G is now rolling out in Europe, including in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and others. Samsung Germany formally introduced the budget phone earlier today.
The Galaxy A17 5G costs €229 / £199, but you might get more value from your purchase depending on the market. For example, in Germany, Samsung is offering the Galaxy SmartTag 2 as a complimentary gift to Galaxy A17 buyers for a limited time.
Samsung's new budget phone can get even cheaper
The free SmartTag 2 offer is available in Germany until September 18. Furthermore, anyone signing up for the Samsung Members loyalty program gets a 10% discount on the Galaxy A17 5G.
In other words, you could buy the Galaxy A17 5G for as low as €206 and get the SmartTag 2, worth €39.90, for free.
The Galaxy SmartTag 2 is a nice addition that will give you a taste of the SmartThings platform on your new budget phone. It's a location tracker that you can monitor and manage through the SmartThings mobile app. It can be attached to luggage, valuable objects, and even pet collars.
If you're not buying the Galaxy A17 5G in Germany, make sure you check your local Samsung e-shop to see if the company has a similar offer for your country in Europe.

The Galaxy A17 5G's specifications are consistent across all markets. The budget phone is equipped with a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, 128GB/256GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and the Exynos 1330 chip.
The rear camera consists of a 50MP primary unit with OIS, a 5MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 2MP macro sensor. The selfie shooter has a 13MP resolution.
Lastly, the phone has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, runs One UI 7, and is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging capabilities.
The Galaxy A17 5G is undoubtedly a budget phone, but it looks quite modern thanks to its flat surfaces and the camera housing design. It also has Gorilla Glass Victus display protection and an IP54 dust and water resistance rating.
Samsung says it will keep the Galaxy A17 updated with new OS versions and security patches for up to six years. So, despite the low price, the Galaxy A17 could, in theory, be a long-term investment.
