Often considered as one of the more interesting uses for gaming hardware in the past decade, the Louvre’s electronic audio guide system—which was powered via Nintendo’s 3DS system—provided museum-goers with a unique way to get around one of the world’s most renowned cultural epicenters. Unfortunately however, it looks like the service will now come to an end, according to new reports online.

According to the Louvre’s official website (spotted by the folks over at Nintendo Everything), the museum has finally decided to adopt a newer system in place, which will take effect starting this September. The Louvre hasn’t specified which system it will be using going forward though, at least at the moment.
This isn’t too surprising however, as it’s been some time now since Nintendo formally discontinued sales and support for the 3DS, which remained active for a few years even after the launch of the first-generation Nintendo Switch.
The 3DS audio guide system was a pretty significant highlight for Nintendo when it first launched, allowing users to experience a simulated route throughout the Louvre, access hours of commentary, and even view select art pieces using the built-in 3D function on the 3DS. The guide was also launched as a standalone software.
