Samsung reveals plans to strengthen workforce for future breakthroughs

Samsung, one of the world's largest conglomerates, sells everything from phones to TVs, builds oil drilling ships, and manufactures high-tech medical equipment. Its products and services are built with the help of its massive global workforce, but it is planning to hire even more employees over the next five years to help shape its future products and technologies.

Samsung to hire 60,000 new employees globally

The South Korean firm has announced that it plans to hire 60,000 more employees globally over the next five years. Most of its hiring will be focused around artificial intelligence (AI), the biotechnology industry, and semiconductor chips. Samsung will hire around 12,000 employees per year for the next five years.

The company plans to use its “talent-first” approach and maintain its longstanding open recruitment system that ensures fair opportunities for everyone. Currently, the company's 19 affiliate firms, including Samsung Biologics, Samsung C&T, and Samsung Electronics have already started the second half recruitment program to secure more talent.

It is also expanding its internship opportunities so that students can acquire practical skills necessary for future employment. And it will hire some of its interns through as full-time employees. It will hire technical talent through several programs, including International Skills Olympics, Meister High School, and National Skills Competition.

Samsung will also train students by offering high-quality AI-focused and software training through its Samsung Youth SW·AI Academy (SSAFY) program in five campuses in South Korea: Busan, Daejeon, Gumi, Gwangju, and Seoul.

In Korea, the company has been supporting young people and students with housing support. Starting this year, it will also offer job training in various fields, including electronics, IT manufacturing, software development, advertising/public relations, heavy equipment operation, semiconductor piping, ship manufacturing, and air conditioning/refrigeration.

It is also supporting various youth-led activitsts and groups for creating jobs and improving communities.

Through its C-Lab Outside program, it is supporting startups and nurturing them. Since 2018, it has supported over 540 startups.
