sounds really good to me. only issue i see is no dedicated video card so your not gunna be setup for gaming but other then that its really sweet deal. i googled the laptop and on the pics i found had it able to rotate the screen. does it on that one?

btw what are the specs on the vaio? that would be one of your best bets. asus is....

also i might have seen one major issue..
12.1 inch screen. thats TINY as hell. atm the average screensize is 15.1 thats probably why its so cheap.

Actually the tinier they get the more expensive! Its all about portability these days. Your paying for it to be portable. netbooks on the other hand are cheaper because of no dvdrom drive and limited atom cpu. 12.1, 13.1 14 are all always more expensive than the traditional 15".

and theres no point in a dedicated video card on a 12.1" screen. unless your puming out 1080p to an external monitor.

when i first wrote i didn't see the monitor size before i put the comment on the video card. but seriously i would never go with that low of a monitor size. when i first got my laptop i almost didn't get because i wanted 17"

I understand what you mean. I had gotten a 17" gaming laptop but it wasn't the same for me as my home rig(ended up returning it). As they say bigger is better, but sometimes I just want portability. I have an old Intel P4 15" laptop I'm dying to upgrade, but I want either a 14" or 15" maybe a 13"

ide personally go with the vaio/ mainly because sonys are built really well and what not. its got less ram but it isn't that important for your needs. the only real time you will need more then 2 gigs is if you run a ton of intensive programs/game or do video editing. same as the processor. you will also get a better screen :P
